NEW FOR MARCH 2012
Themed Radio Workshops

Themed Radio Workshops

New for this term, we've teamed up with some experts in their fields to bring you a Religious Education Radio Workshop with Sharon Artley, a MFL Radio Workshop with Joe Dale and an E-Safety and Digital Literacy Radio Workshop with Simon Finch.  These are whole day live radio workshops with specific curriculum themes running right through them.  We provide everything included consultancy before we arrive to ensure that we meet all of your learning objectives on the day.  This is a fixed price workshop for up to 40 pupils or students at both primary and secondary level, larger groups can be arranged.  These well known experts will work with Russell to bring you a live radio broadcast towards the end of your school day.  Anyone can listen into the show, typically schools will send invitations to parents and supporters of the school or establishment so that they can tune into the Internet Radio Station at the allotted time.  The broadcasts are available live on the world-wide Anderton Tiger Radio Channel, so twinned schools or World Class Schools can listen in too.  A podcast of the show is given to the school at the end of the activity.

We consistently score top 5 Star marks with all of our products, there are also some great independent reviews of our School Radio products on the Innovate My School Website   This is what our customers are saying about us "The children quickly acquired (within an hour) the basic skills necessary to produce a live broadcast using jingles."  "The Broadcaster Desktop is one of the best things our school has purchased."  Read more of these new fabulous reviews HERE. We are the only Digital School Radio manufacturer to consistently score 5 Stars, the highest standard and the cheapest on the market.

Aimed at learners, this is a whole day workshop session using
Live School Radio Studio Equipment to produce and broadcast live a radio programme.  An audio file of the day's work is also available at the end of the day as evidence of the progress that your learners have made.

There is a welcome first thing and a chance for everyone to see the school radio equipment that will be used.  The aim of the day is to produce an outstanding live radio show that Russell will AIR live on the Internet and broadcast around the school and potentially around the world.  There can be up to 10 groups, each group will need their own table to work at and could have between 1 and 20 pupils working in that team.  It is important for each student to choose the group they want to work in.  Russell will bring information signs for each group.  They will work in their chosen groups to produce scripts, sound effects and decide amongst  themselves who will be the broadcasters in their team.  Each team will need to elect an editor who reports to the station manager (Russell) and editors are given briefings and have to convey urgent tasks to their teams at short notice.  The whole day is a role play exercise based around the construct of a live radio show, the emphasis is on speaking and listening skills and working well within teams, sharing and being kind and respectful to each other are also key to the success of the day.  There will be run through rehearsals, and plenty of time to improve scripts through short group discussions. Each table will need paper and pencils and a laptop or access to ICT room to do research on news stories, weather conditions and perhaps to type and print their scripts.  Although typed scripts aren’t essential as most students work off their written page.

The workshop needs to be held in a big space where Russell can project onto a screen and have tables and chairs for the student production teams to work at.   The group could be as large as the space you have to support them.  They will work on News, Weather, Sports, Features, and Advertising or even more groups if you wanted the teams to be smaller.  Russell has worked with bigger groups so this may be possible if you want to spread the experience, however if this number goes up then each team will only have a short while at the microphone to perform their piece.

The Radio equipment needs to connect to an Internet connection that allows streaming to a specific IP address and Port Number so that your show can be broadcast live at the end of the day.  If this is not possible then the show can be broadcast in the room, around the school and put the podcast of the broadcast on your website afterwards.  Russell will bring several 3G broadband modems with him as these will act as plan B if connection to your network isn’t possible.  Ideally in a perfect world, you would have a clean unfiltered ADSL connection to offer guests that visit your school, this is rare and not at all expected.  Students not participating in the workshop can tune in from their classrooms on any computer that has speakers or come to the hall and be a live studio audience.

If streaming out is possible (occasionally due to very poor local mobile phone network provision it isn’t), then parents and friends of the school might like to listen in.  Please direct them to www.AndertonTiger.com/Listen where there will be a published time to listen in live.

The workshop appeals to everyone, planning, collaborating on a radio programme is a brilliant way to engage students, promote student voice and develop critical thinking skills in a safe secure environment.  This is different to podcasting, this is live, high pressure, on the button radio, and there's nothing like it to motivate learners.
Available for all age groups and all abilities.

This workshop is also perfect for ICT Focussed WOW Days, celebrating achievement, rewarding success; treat your learners to a fabulous experiential live radio workshop at your school.  Thematic Learning Projects can easily be incorporated into this activity as can any any topic based material.  Expect to see a dramatic improvement in speaking & listening, this is unlike anything else and will provide the impact that you are looking for.

Anthony from The Ridgeway School in Swindon hassling you again!
Because your radio day was so successful in December 2010 (GCSE Media recruitment has doubled – very much appreciated!)
I was just wondering if it might be possible to book you again… The kids are still buzzing about you!

"The day itself was fantastic and Russell is a real natural with kids.
The children gained so much from it that it is difficult to know where to start.
Team work and motivation were brilliant. The "quiet" children came out of their shells and shone.
The children are desperate for Russell to come back - on a weekly basis!!
Ged Philbin, Headteacher, Park House Primary School

"You are an inspiration to the students and to all of us. I am so impressed that the students walk through the door and just bring themselves. The whole day comes from their own planning, thinking and research and it all comes together so well."
Teresa Gold, Waingels College

"I have to say it was the best prize I have ever won and would recommend this workshop to any Primary/secondary school as Russell is a master in his art-form. He could easily adapt to any given setting/pupil range. The children's faces were positively beaming when they heard their broadcast live. They were so proud as were their parents, and so they should have been! The behaviour and focus was faultless. The workshop was a tremendous success.  We can't thank you enough!"
M Berry, Langwith Bassett Primary School

"We had the most wonderful day with Russell. He arrived in good time and was so well organised that all the day went really smoothly. The children had a great time and were involved in quality IT work from start 'til finish.  I cannot recommend Russell Prue too highly.
Many thanks to him for a thoroughly enjoyable day."
Wendy J Walker, Kirby Stephen Primary School
